- On May 19, 2020, HBS recognized the graduation of 35 master’s and PhD students at the first-ever virtual Department Graduation Celebration and, later, at the JHSPH schoolwide ceremony.
- Ilana L. Newman (MHS ’20) and Diana Phan (ScM ’20) were inducted into the Alpha Chapter of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health. HBS faculty member, Vanya Jones (PhD ’06) was recognized as an alumni inductee.
- Beata Debinski (PhD ’20) received second place in the 2020 Delta Omega Poster Competition’s Policy & Practice research category for her poster: "The Church is going to hear you. And we’re going to be here for you.": The Catholic Church Addressing Intimate Partner Violence.
- Naira Kalra (PhD ’19) was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa.
- HBS faculty member, Lisa Cooper, MD, was appointed the new director of the Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute.
- Fitri Putjuk of the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP) was selected as the staff recipient of the 2020 Excellence in International Public Health Practice Award for her leadership with the MyChoice project, which works to increase modern contraceptive methods of family planning in Indonesia.
- Lee Bone, RN, MPH, an HBS faculty member, received the faculty award in Excellence in Baltimore Public Health Practice. It recognizes her work with Baltimore CONNECT, a collaborative effort across community organizations, faith groups, and health systems designed to tackle social determinants of health through connecting healthcare and social services in Baltimore.
- 10. HBS researcher, Lauren J. Parker, PhD, delivered a virtual presentation on cultural considerations for individuals living with COVID-19 at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health’s webcast on supporting people with dementia and their caregivers during the pandemic.
- HBS researcher, Rajeev Cherukupalli, PhD, co-wrote a Foreign Affairs editorial with Tom Frieden, president of Resolve to Save Lives and former director of the CDC, on understanding pandemic economics.
- 28 HBS faculty received 2019-2020 Excellence in Teaching Awards based on the strength of their student course evaluations.
