Genee S. Smith received the 2017 – 2018 Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions Pilot Project award for her proposal, “A Multi-level, Multi-Domain Analysis of Health Disparities within US Gentrified Neighborhoods”

The Pilot Project Program supports new and early stage investigators (ESI) with projects related to place-based determinants of health disparities and minority health.

Dr. Smith research examines the impact of race and class on neighborhood–level environmental exposures and subsequent health disparities. She utilizes large national datasets to explore the synergistic effects of inequities in the built, natural, and social environment and conducts community based participatory research to address local environmental concerns. Dr. Smith is passionate about using her training in environmental epidemiology exposure assessment, and spatial analysis to promote environmental justice and alleviate placed-based health disparities.
