Public Health Practice

In the Department of Health, Behavior and Society, we put research into practice to solve some of the most pressing problems of the day.

We apply rigorous public health scholarship, knowledge and skills to practice settings through collaboration with governments, policymakers, communities, advocacy organizations, and health care delivery systems—and across disciplines—deploying evidence to the front lines.

Through research, technical assistance and innovative partnerships, we assess problems, develop interventions and support the development of evidence-based policies, advocate, and assure effective implementation and rigorous evaluation. We publish, teach, and communicate the evidence, skills and tools needed to translate research into tangible improvements in people’s lives.

In the Department of Health, Behavior and Society, our commitment to academic service is matched by the dedication of our faculty, students and staff to shaping and promoting public and corporate policies and public health practices that reduce disparities and improve health worldwide.

We offer a wide variety of courses and other opportunities that will hone your skills in health communication, community-based participatory research, campaign organizing and translating research into action. Through field placements, internships and practicums, you will learn how to effectively collaborate with communities and all levels of government to turn cutting-edge research into practice.
