On Sat, April 26th, 2008, SOURCE will host the Spring Tri-School (Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health) Day of Service (a part of National Volunteer Week's Activities!) A variety of one-time community service projects are listed below.
Co-sponsors include: InterAction Council (SOM), Student Assembly's Community Affairs Committee (JHSPH), Student Government Association (SON), JHU Alumni Association and Environmental Stewardship Committee (JHSPH). Most projects require no special skills or advance knowledge. Simply bring yourself and your willingness to contribute: 10 am - 2 pm. Join BAIC in preparing for the grand opening of their new facilities. Tasks include renovating, cleaning, moving, and organizing the cultural and physical activity building. BAIC provides social, health, cultural and other support services to Native Americans in Baltimore. 9 am - 12 pm. Help sort, stamp, shelve and move books for the Baltimore Reads Book Bank, which collects and distributes books to schools and disadvantaged families.
10:30 am - 2:30 pm. This East Baltimore community group will be landscaping a community garden. Tasks include painting, planting, and garden maintenance.
10 am —2 pm. Join this environmental organization's Global Youth Service Day efforts and work beside Frank Square Elementary students and their families as they mulch, plant, and weed around the school. A vegetable garden will also be created for a future educational project on healthy eating!
9:30 am - 1:30 pm. Assist this community clinic in their "Diabetes Defense Day". Educate patients on nutrition and exercise. Food, fun, and education..all around managing diabetes. 8:15 am - 1:30 pm. Work with his community center's "You Have the Power to End Stroke; Remembering Ruby Glover" event. Participate in healthy eating demonstrations and other educational activities geared toward stroke prevention. Breakfast and lunch will be served at this site. There will also be live jazz!
10 am - 2 pm. Help one of the neigboring elementary schools by assisting with their community garden, and helping with the upkeep of their grounds and other maintenance. To view the flyer for this event, click here.
