Step 2: Write Text for Search Engines

When ranking Web pages, almost all search engines take into account the actual words in a page's text; thus, good Web content is crucial in getting search engines to notice your pages. If you write your text with search engines in mind, you can increase your chances of being ranked high in their search results.

To create content easy for search engines to find:

  • Scatter keywords throughout text.
  • Put keywords in linked text.
  • Put keywords in headings if possible. This helps search engines find them.
  • Keep important phrases together. If “injury control” is something someone might search on to find your pages, put those words together in the text.
  • Remember: Words that appear within graphics don't count. Search engines don't read graphics. You can get around this by going into Site Executive's Edit mode, right clicking on the image, clicking on “Image Properties,” and typing in the information in the “Alt. text” box. Alt. text can be read by the browser.
