How to Improve Your Site's Search Engine Ranking

About Search Engines and Directories

Search engines, such as Google, Altavista, and Yahoo, are one of the ways that Internet users find websites. Sites can increase their user visits dramatically if they have search engine listings that come up high in the rankings.

Search engines have different ways of ranking pages, so you have to be prepared for all of them.  Follow these general steps to increase your site’s search engine ranking.

Step 1: Devising good keywords is the basis of search engine optimization. Search engines rank text according to the keywords they find in each page's metatags and in the content itself.

Step 2: If you write your text with search engines in mind, you can increase your rank in search engine query results.

Step 3: Some search engines use metatags, computer code at the top of each Web page, to rank pages. Therefore, you must write content-rich metatags for your pages.

Step 4: You can submit your Web pages directly to different search engines and directories.
