I am interested in understanding and changing food systems, particularly promoting environmental sustainability. I am also interested in food system inequities and in strengthening the public health role in addressing these issues. I direct the Food System Environmental Sustainability program at the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future (CLF). I am leading multiple projects on the issue of wasted food, and also work on topics including Baltimore's food system, farm policy in public health context, and analyzing public communications regarding food system environmental threats, especially climate change.
I am editing a textbook on the Food System and Public Health on behalf of the CLF (Wiley-Jossey Bass, forthcoming 2014). I also manage research programs for the CLF including the CLF-Lerner Fellowships and directed research.
I teach the courses, Baltimore Food Systems: Case Study in Urban Food Environments; and Food System Sustainability Practicum.
