Principles of Environmental Health I

Description:

Since solving environmental issues requires the integration of multi-disciplinary approaches, students build on the basic principles and concepts presented in Principles of Environmental Health I. Students focus on the foundational knowledge and methods in environmental health needed by doctoral students to prepare for careers in environmental health.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the interdisciplinary nature needed to address environmental health problems
  2. Evaluate and critique a body of literature in environmental health in order to assess the state of knowledge and research gaps
  3. Describe in detail methodologies currently used in environmental health research
  4. Describe current problems and potential solutions in environmental health
  5. Explain research results to technical and lay audiences
Methods of Assessment:

Evaluation will be based on journal article presentations and the preparation of a final paper that integrates the various disciplines of environmental health. Presentations and paper should demonstrate an understanding of the five course learning objectives.

Enrollment Restriction:

Enrollment is required for doctoral students in EHS. Permission from course director required for non-EHS doctoral students and DrPH students. Non-Departmental students will be expected to have taken a course in environmental health
