Description
Introduces participants to clinical research. Reviews the key aspects of observational study designs (case-control, cross-sectional and cohort studies) and clinical trials. Encourages in-depth discussions of research methodologies and the practical aspects of designing and conducting clinical research studies. Incorporates a mixture of lectures and journal club discussions of published articles. Finally, in small groups each day, participants and instructors work on the development and refinement of a plan for a research study proposed by each participant.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Review and evaluate the main study designs used in clinical research including clinical trials and case-control, cohort, and cross-sectional studies
  2. Critique, revise, and improve designs for clinical research
