      Andrea Keane-Myers, PhD 1995
Director, Vaccine Research, Naval Medical Research Center

Andrea received her Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology in 1995 from JHSPH.  After receiving her doctorate, she had two post-doctoral fellowships.  The first was in the Multi-disciplinary Program in Lung Disease, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, followed by a second post-doc in Molecular Immunology, as part of the Vision Scientists Training Program, Department of Ophthalmology, Schepens Eye Research Institute, Harvard Medical School.  After her second fellowship, and an instructorship in the Department of Ophthalmology at Harvard, she was recruited to the National Institutes of Health where she worked as the Chief of the Allergic Inflammation Section in the Laboratory of Allergic Diseases, NIAID, NIH.  She is currently the head of the Vaccines and Medical Countermeasures Department in the Biological Defense Research Directorate, Naval Medical Research Center and has 20+ years in developing and implementing animal models.  In addition, she is well versed with a number of different bacterial pathogens, including select agents, as well as the development of vaccines and countermeasures against those pathogens. Her broad immunology background allows her to understand interactions between pathogens and hosts at both the systemic and cellular levels.  Finally, she has 13 years as either a section chief or a department head and thus has extensive experience in managing both people and scientific projects.
