COAH Biostatistics Data Management
The Data Group within the Center on Aging and Health's Biostatistics Core performs several functions concerning management, collection and interpretation of data.
Primarily, it maintains a data repository of the major studies conducted by the center. This includes WHAS I, WHAS II, Cognitive Pathways, WHAS III and Experience Corps. Investigators who would like to use the data in these studies for their own analysis can apply to access the data using the COAH Data Acquisition and Repository System (DARS). As a function of the data repository, the Data Group also maintains a specialized meta-database that describes the data from previously conducted studies. This is used, in part, to organize and explain the physical data so investigators can select appropriate data sets for their proposals submitted to the DARS. The Group also handles data management duties for active studies. It employs several technologies in this role, including scannable forms, Access databases and the ResearcherTools clinical trials system.
COAH Data Acquisition and Repository System ()
The DARS is a Web-based application that allows researchers to submit proposals to the Center's Publication Committees for access to Center data. The application helps speed the process by which approval is granted to access data, and ensures that analyses are unique, meet the aims of the studies and are important to the advancement of geriatric research.

ResearchTools is a Web-based Clinical Trials Management system based on Yale's TrialDB CTM. Ported by the COAH Staff to SQL Server, the system currently manages studies on geriatric surgery funded through the Center. ResearcherTools, however, is flexible enough to manage any kind of study, from multi-site clinical trials, to single-site longitudinal epidemiological studies.
