The Center for Adolescent Health is one of 33 Prevention Research Centers supported by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention.

We are committed to assisting urban youth in becoming healthy and productive adults. Together with community partners, the Center conducts research that identifies the needs and strengths of young people and tests programs designed to promote the health and well-being of young people.

The Young Health Programme - YHP is a long-term community investment initiative about helping young people in need around the world deal with the health issues they face so they can improve their chances of living a better life. In connection with the Center's Youth Advisory Committee, Video and slideshow stories are told through the eyes of adolescents.

Dr. Nan Astone and Community Advisor Board chair Ross Pologe partnered with Baltimore Homeless Services to conduct a 2011 parallel count of homeless and unstably housed youth in Baltimore City. Astone and Pologe identified 640 homeless youth on January 25, 2011. In 2009, the parallel count number was 426 young people. 

Dr. Arik Marcel and Center Director Dr. Freya Sonenstein wrote an article in an upcoming issue of the journal Men and Masculinities about men's masculinity attitudes becoming significantly less traditional between middle adolescence and early adulthood.

Dr. Adena Galinsky and Center Director Dr. Freya Sonenstein wrote an article appearing in the June issue of The Journal of Adolescent Health about their study linking empathy, self esteem and autonomy with increased levels of sexual enjoyment among young adults.
