Johnson & Johnson Scholars provide technical assistance to community healthcare organizations around the country.

Throughout the program, the scholars help the community healthcare organizations improve their in-house capacity in monitoring and evaluation.

The program has given more than 70 doctoral students from the Bloomberg School and the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing the opportunity to translate their academic knowledge into practice. At the same time, the scholars offer Johnson & Johnson grantees the help they need to demonstrate program effectiveness.

A request for applications is released in March to first year, full-time, doctoral students with final selection of scholars announced by April of every year.

The Scholars start work with their projects during the fall of the first year of the grant, followed by field visits and sustained follow-up via conference calls, webinars and e-mail.

At the end of the grant period, the staff at each healthcare organization is able to design and implement their own evaluation plan, including setting goals, objectives, and indicators, creating a conceptual framework as well as a data base, and conducting data analysis and presenting their program’s outcomes.
