International Students

The Bloomberg School takes pride in its diverse student population and welcomes the opportunity to work with students from around the world.

If you are an international student, keep in mind the following conditions in addition to the basic application requirements.

English Language Tests

Students from countries where English is not an official language must submit either a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score with their online application.

You can review the quick reference country list to confirm if you need to submit a TOEFL or an IELTS score. If you do, you only have to submit one of these scores.

Depending on which test you take, here are the minimum scores needed for admission.

International applicants who have completed an accredited four-year degree program within the U.S. are exempt from the English Language test requirement. 

If you are unsure if you will need to submit either a TOEFL or an IELTS score, contact the Admissions Office.

International Academic Records

Regardless of your citizenship, language or home country, if you attended a post-secondary institution outside of the United States, you must have your academic records evaluated by a U.S.-based external credential evaluation agency.

When selecting a credential evaluation agency, be sure to do the following.

The Bloomberg School does not endorse credential evaluation agencies. However, the following agencies meet the general requirements and will submit copies of transcripts (and mark sheets) with their reports.

Study Abroad Transcripts

If you are a domestic student and your courses, grades and credits from your study abroad program appear on your home school’s official transcript, you do not need to submit a transcript from your study abroad institution.

If your home school's transcript does not provide this information and the courses you took were limited to one semester, you will need to request an official transcript from your study abroad institution. This transcript need not be evaluated by a credentials agency.

If you took courses for more than one semester abroad and the information does not appear on your home school's transcript, then we will require an evaluated transcript from your study abroad institution.

Student Visas

All admitted international student who plan to attend the Bloomberg School are required to attend in F-1 or J-1 status (unless you are already in possession of an immigration status in which studying is permissible). This process will not begin until you are formally admitted.

The Office of International Services will contact admitted international students who have completed their enrollment form in the spring. Additional instructions will be provided then.
