Application Instructions
for 2012-2013 Program Applications

Special notes:

The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health requires applicants submitting academic records from institutions outside the U.S. to have their documents evaluated by an external credentialing agency.  Please see Academic Record Section for details.

JHSPH is NOT currently participating in SOPHAS.

Step 1

IDENTIFY THE RIGHT PROGRAM FOR YOU

Please take time before you apply to ensure you are choosing the correct program.  Selection of the incorrect program or start date could potentially slow or stop the processing of your application.

Step 2

ADHERE TO APPLICATION DEADLINES AND REQUIREMENTS

There are numerous application deadlines and requirements that vary by department and program, so be sure to correctly identify the application deadline and requirements for your particular program of interest.

This information can be found in the links located on the box to the right.  We encourage you to review this information thoroughly before you move forward with the application process.

In general, degree program applicants must submit the following supporting documents in addition to the online application:

  • GRE or other appropriate standardized test score
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation
  • Official transcripts from ALL educational institutions attended (please see special instructions for international academic records)
  • Resume or curriculum vitae
  • TOEFL OR IELTS scores (for international applicants from countries/education programs where English is not the official language)

MPH applicants are encouraged to review MPH program-specific admissions criteria.

Step 3

APPLY ONLINE

Apply to any of our academic programs online. The online application fee is $45. If applying to multiple programs, a separate application, a separate application fee, and a separate statement of goals are required for each additional application. Application fees are non-refundable. Applications will not be processed until payment is received.

ADDITIONAL APPLICATION INFORMATION

CHECK YOUR EMAIL & ONLINE APPLICATION REGULARLY
Throughout the application process, you are encouraged to check your application status and the status of any supporting materials through your online application account. You may receive communication from Admissions Services or from the department, so please be sure to include your current email in your application. If you are granted admission, you will receive additional information by email.

UPDATE US IMMEDIATELY
If your contact information changes (i.e. name, e-mail, phone, address, etc.), please provide us with updated information as soon as it is available.

OFFICIAL RECORDS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL PROGRAMS
Academic records (transcripts or mark sheets) of ALL colleges, universities, graduate or professional schools you have attended are required for ALL SPECIAL STUDENT AND DEGREE PROGRAM APPLICATIONS. Click here for more details.

DO NOT SUBMIT UNNECESSARY DOCUMENTS
Avoid sending unnecessary documents, such as secondary school records or awards, certificates, or commendations that are not directly related to your academic experience or professional goals. If you want us to know about a relevant award you may list it on your resume or curriculum vitae.

ORDER TEST SCORES EARLY
Be sure that you have supplied the correct school code for the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health to ETS. Our School code is 5352.

APPLICATION PROPERTY
All application materials and supporting documents submitted to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health become the property of the School. We cannot return material to an applicant or forward any material to a third party outside the School.
  
APPLICATION FEE WAIVERS
Important Note: By selecting this payment option, you acknowledge that the waiver request process can take 6-8 weeks for review and could potentially hinder the processing of your application by the program deadline. You may request a waiver of the application fee ONLINE as a payment option ONLY IF you meet one of the 10 criteria listed below. There are no exceptions.

ONLY the following applicants may select Fee Waiver as a payment option at the time of application:
1) If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident currently enrolled full-time in an academic institution AND can provide documentation from the financial aid officer of your school. 
2) If you are currently registered as a full-time degree candidate at the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
3) If you are currently affiliated with the Leadership Alliance Early Identification Program AND can provide documentation
4) If you are currently affiliated with the Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholars AND can provide documentation
5) If you are currently affiliated with the McNair Scholars AND can provide documentation
6) If you are currently affiliated with the Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) and related programs (MBRS/RISE) AND can provide documentation
7)  If you are currently affiliated with the National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science AND can provide documentation
8)  If you are currently affiliated with the Meyerhoff Scholars, UMBC AND can provide documentation
9)  If you are currently affiliated with Project 1000 AND can provide documentation
10) If you are a participant in the Johns Hopkins Diversity Summer Internship Program (DSIP)
