Take a Course as a Non-degree Seeking Student

Prospective students have an opportunity to take up to 16 units of coursework as a special student limited.  Application to the program is not necessary to exercise this option.  Prospects may take courses in East Baltimore, Montgomery County, or via the Internet.  Students interested in applying to the program are strongly encouraged to contact the MPH Program Office and begin the application process prior to reaching the 16 unit limit.

Certificate Option

How to register for a course at the East Baltimore Campus

1.  Contact the teaching faculty to request permission to participate in the course.  Approval can be granted in the form of a signature or e-mail.
2. 
After receiving permission, complete a JHSPH registration form and Student Data form .
3. 
Submit all registration paperwork, permission, and payment to the Office of Records and Registration by the registration deadline.

How to register for a course at the Montgomery County Campus

First time registrants

Must attend In-person Information and Registration Sessions at Montgomery County to participate in courses at that campus.

For subsequent registrations

Option 1:

Attend in-person information and registration sessions at Montgomery County.

Option 2:

1.  Contact faculty to request permission to participate in the course.  Permission can be granted in the form of a signature or e-mail.
2. 
Complete the JHSPH registration form and Student Data form.
3. 
Submit paperwork, permission, and payment using one of the following methods:
     a. Submit paperwork in-person to
Ilene Macie at the Montgomery County campus.
     b. Submit paperwork in-person to the Office of Records and Registration at the East Baltimore campus.
     c. Mail paperwork and payment to the Office of Records and Registration.

Certificate Options

As you take courses as a non-degree seeking student, you may want to consider completing a certificate at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.  If you are admitted into the MPH Program and pursue a certificate, the credits earned toward a certificate may be applied to your MPH degree.  Click here to learn more about certificate options.
