Take a Course as a Non-degree-seeking Student

Prospective students have an opportunity to take up to 16 units of coursework that can later be applied toward the MPH degree program. Students interested in applying to the program are strongly encouraged to contact the MPH Program Office and begin the application process prior to reaching the 16 unit limit. To find courses, please see the searchable course catalog.

How to register for a course as a non-degree "special student"

(Please note: Instructions below apply to the regular 8-week terms. For the registration process for Institute courses, please see the Summer Institute, Fall Institute, or Winter Institute websites.)

  1. If taking an internet course, first complete Introduction to Online Learning.
  2. Email the course instructor or course contact (as per the catalog description) to receive permission to participate in the course.
  3. Complete a special student registration form.
  4. Submit the registration form, instructor permission and payment by the registration deadline. Deadlines are as per the academic calendar.

Non-degree certificate programs

As you take courses as a non-degree seeking student, you may want to consider completing a certificate program at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. If you are admitted into the MPH Program and pursue a certificate, the credits earned toward a certificate may be applied to your MPH degree.
