The Johns Hopkins Master of Public Health (MPH) Program for health professionals in the Asia Pacific Rim region offers the opportunity to earn a world-class degree in three years. The MPH Program courses are available online and are combined with short-format face-to-face classes taught by Hopkins faculty in Baltimore and at an Asia Pacific Rim region site. This flexible approach allows working professionals to negotiate busy schedules while completing the degree. All college graduates from related fields with at least two years of health-related work experience can apply for the MPH Program. Student will matriculate in June 2009. Courses will be conducted in Baltimore, sites in the Asia Pacific Rim region, and online. - The program will begin with initial face-to-face courses in Baltimore on the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health campus
- Subsequent face-to-face courses will be held yearly in one-week institutes at sites in the Asia Pacific Rim region
- Students will also take Internet courses
- Students will complete the program by presenting capstone projects in a Capstone Symposium, the be held in the Asia Pacific Rim region
The program will begin in Baltimore with a two-week institute. After that, students will complete Internet courses and attend annual institutes in which intensive face-to-face courses will be conducted at an Asia Pacific Rim region site. While the MPH for health professionals is a School-wide program, some courses will be customized to address regional needs in specific health services. The MPH Program for health professionals in the Asia Pacific Rim region seeks qualified applicants with clearly identified career goals that are consistent with the training offered by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. All students must possess a baccalaureate degree and either two years of post-baccalaureate health-related work experience or a doctoral degree in a field underlying public health. Admissions Requirements:
Coursework - All matriculating Master of Public Health students shall have successfully completed at least one college-level course in each of the following areas: - mathematics (for example, calculus, algebra or statistics)
- general biology
- health-related science (for example, nutrition, microbiology, anatomy or physiology), OR another biology course
Official Test Scores - Scores of the GRE, MCAT, GMAT, or LSAT are required of all MPH applicants. Applicants who have an advanced degree beyond the baccalaureate may elect to have their application reviewed by the MPH admissions committee without a standardized test score. However, they may be putting themselves at a disadvantage, particularly if their admission materials do not demonstrate significant quantitative and analytical skills. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Applicants from countries where English is not the primary language must submit official scores from the TOEFL. A minimum TOEFL score of 250 on the computer-based test, 600 on the paper-based, or 100 on the Internet-based test, OR a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 is required for admission into the MPH Program. Experience - A minimum of two years of full-time post-baccalaureate health-related work experience is required of all applicants who have not earned a doctoral degree. Back to top Leiyu Shi, DrPH, MBA Professor, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Co-director, Johns Hopkins Primary Care Policy Center for the Underserved Dr. Shi is a professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management. His research contributions concern primary care, with particular emphasis on community health centers. He has conducted numerous national surveys with the administrators, medical directors, and boards of directors of community health centers on the staffing, recruitment, retention, financing, and satisfaction related to community health centers. His own research is in the areas of primary care and managed care related to community health centers. EDC has signed a contract with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in February, 2006, whereby EDC is the sole agency of the Johns Hopkins Executive Doctoral of Public Health Taiwan Cohort Program.
