The Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency program (OEMR) of the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health is a two-year program designed to prepare physicians for a career in the specialty of occupational and environmental medicine. The OEMR Man on Bridgeincludes an academic year in which the MPH degree is obtained followed by a practicum year of rotations at key training sites in the Mid-Atlantic region. The program, established in 1978, is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and prepares physicians for board certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. The residency program is a component of the Johns Hopkins Education and Research Center for Occupational Safety and Health, funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

To date, over 125 physicians have completed the residency program and hold leadership positions in a wide array of occupational and environmental settings in the US and around the world. The program has a long history of attracting outstanding candidates as evidenced by the number of Occupational Physician Scholars who have trained at Johns Hopkins. The Occupational Physician Scholarship  is a highly prestigious award that is based on education and training, dedication to the field, and complementary experiences. As of 2003, 17 Hopkins residents had received OPSF awards (Green-McKenzie and Emmett. JOEM. 2006).
