Neil Powe & Cynthia Delgado

Past Director Makes TIME100 List

Dr. Neil Powe, former Welch Center director, is among TIME100's "most influential people in health in 2024!"

Dr. Powe is listed alongside celebrity names like Michael J. Fox and Olivia Munn. The feature cites how he and Dr. Cynthia Delgado are fighting transplant bias — detailing a task force they co-chaired reevaluating the formula used for kidney transplant eligibility.

Honoring Excellence in Nursing

This year, 28 Johns Hopkins nurses were named “top nurses” by Baltimore magazine. Among the winners is the Welch Center's Jeanne Charleston, BSN, RN!

“What I find most rewarding about my career as a nurse is that I am advancing diversity and health equity. I enjoy what I do and I have been able to fulfill one of my goals to help eliminate health disparities," Charleston wrote in a statement.

Grand Rounds Spotlight

Join us for our final Grand Rounds of the academic year!

Dr. Sabrina A. Assoumou will speak at Welch Center Grand Rounds on Wednesday, May 15, 2024! Don't miss her presentation on "From Simulation Modeling to Developing Interventions: A Multipronged Approach to the HIV, HCV and OUD Syndemic."

If you can't make this session, you'll have more chances to attend in the near future. Welch Center Grand Rounds will resume in August!

Panelists discuss "Effect of Isocaloric, Time-Restricted Eating on Body Weight in Adults With Obesity: A Randomized Controlled Trial"

Time-Restricted Eating Study

Several Welch faculty collaborated on this impactful new research focusing on time-restricted eating. 

To summarize: when people ate the same amount of calories, but within a limited time window, it didn't help them lose weight or improve how their bodies handled glucose compared to eating normally.

Congratulations to the Welch Center's Dr. Michelle Ogunwole, who was selected to receive a National NIH K12 “Diabetes-Docs: Physician Scientist Career Development Program” (DiabDocs) Award.

New research shows type 1 diabetes should no longer be considered "childhood diabetes." The Welch Center's Drs. Liz Selvin and Mike Fang discuss this on the "Public Health on Call" podcast, Episode 747. The pair share recent discoveries and debunk previously held assumptions surrounding the long-mislabeled health condition.
