I am very pleased to announce that Luke Malone, writer and creator of the podcast “Help Wanted” featured on This American Life, won the Radio Impact Award at the 2014 Third Coast/Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Competition. “Help Wanted” focuses on Luke’s research into understanding what help exists for youth who find themselves with the uncomfortable realization that they are attracted to younger children.
Luke contacted me and was interested in my research at the Moore Center for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. My center's mission is to bring to light research in an area that most people are either too afraid or too uncomfortable to discuss: how do we help those that most people don’t believe want it, need it or deserve it?
The Radio Impact Award recognizes a single documentary or feature that has significantly impacted an individual, group or community, be it through its ability to influence public debate or the capacity to change the course of an individual’s life through story telling. The award ceremony was held Saturday, November 9 at the Third Coast Festival in Chicago.
