Faculty Travel Program Awards

What is the Faculty Travel Program?

Faculty are invited to submit proposals for the Faculty Travel Program of the Center for Mind-Body Research.  The Faculty Travel Program will provide faculty with the funding to support travel or attendance at a specialized workshop or seminar outside of Hopkins to obtain specialized training in an area in Mind-Body practice or research that is not currently available in the Hopkins environment.  It is not to be used to attend an annual professional meeting that does not include some period of intense training or participation in skill-building workshops.  The faculty member funded through this program is expected to bring back new knowledge/skills to the Hopkins community and therefore must commit to attending at least 50% of the Hopkins Center for Mind-Body Research seminars (i.e. at least 6 per year) and to present their new knowledge/skills at one of these seminars.

How do I apply?

(1) Applicants should submit a 3-page proposal that includes: (A) background and aims; (B) a brief description of the course or training experience; (C) a description of how the training will contribute to his/her research and to the aims of the Center for Mind-Body Research; (D) a budget.

Note:  the maximum amount per proposal will be $2,500 and no proposal under $500 will be considered in order to avoid considering small proposals that could be funded easily through the applicant’s division or department.  It is expected that most proposals will be in the $1,500 range and that the Center for Mind-Body Research will fund approximately 6-7 proposals per year, since a total of $10,000/year is budgeted for this program.

(2) Applications for Faculty Travel Program grants will be reviewed throughout the year. The NEXT deadline for receipt of applications is December 15th, 2006.

(3) Applications will be reviewed and scored by the Education and Training Committee.  Awards will be granted based on the merit of the proposals, the number received, and the requested funds.  Members of the Education and Training Committee who apply for this award will not participate in the review of applications for that rotation.
