The Economic Burden of Health Disparities in The United States

This study, commissioned by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies and carried out by leading researchers from Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland, provides important insight into how much of a financial burden racial disparities are putting on our health care system and society at large. The researchers estimated the direct medical costs and indirect costs of health inequalities to the economy. By doing so, they estimated the potential financial benefit that would accrue to the economy if every racial/ethnic group in the United States had similar health outcomes.
