  • Myths, Misunderstandings and the Truth about the HPV Vaccine
    • Wednesday, January 22, 2014: 12:00pm ET
      • January is Cervical Health Awareness Month. As part of our commitment to sexual health and reproductive justice, the Black Women’s Health Imperative is raising awareness on the most preventable cancer—cervical cancer. When thinking about cervical cancer prevention, many women have questions about the human papillomavirus (HPV) and specifically, the HPV vaccine. To help bring clarity, the Imperative is hosting a webinar to discuss the myths, misunderstandings and the truth about the HPV vaccine. Join the Imperative along with leading experts and advocates in an interactive discussion to address several issues that have recently surfaced.
        • Low rates of HPV vaccination among young Black women and fewer Black women completing the vaccine series
        • Sexual health context of cervical cancer and HPV
        • Changes in cervical cancer prevention
        • Concerns about the proper dosage of the vaccine and its long term efficacy

  • Learn about the Affordable Care Act in Mandarin
    • Thursday, January 23, 2014: 3:00pm-4:00pm ET
      • The Google+ Hangout Series on the Health Insurance Marketplace in Chinese.  Almost one in seven Chinese Americans lacks health insurance.  Chinese Americans are also among the highest limited English proficient populations in the nation. Almost half of all Chinese Americans (46 percent) report speaking English less than very well. So, access to information on health care in Chinese is critical to increasing health insurance coverage and access to health care among Chinese Americans.
      • During the Hangout, there will be a live question and answer period with Mandarin-speaking representatives from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. They will respond to your questions and provide information on how to obtain health care coverage through the new Marketplace.
      •  You may also submit your questions in advance by emailing or Tweeting them to @WhiteHouseAAPI.
    • Information on the website is also available in Mandarin
