Assistant Scientist, Ms. Jiangxia Wang and JHBC interim director, Gayane Yenokyan contributed to a late-breaking abstract titled “A Patient-Centered Education Bundle Dramatically Reduces Missed Doses of Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis Medication Doses in Hospitalized Patients”, which was accepted for presentation at the 2017 Annual AcademyHealth Research Meeting, a top health services research conference, June 25-27 in New Orleans, LA.

JHBC consultant and Biostatistics research associate Josh Betz is going to present this year at the Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM), the world’s largest statistical conference. His talk, titled “An Optimized Adaptive Enrichment Design for Multi-Arm Trials” is sponsored by the JSM’s biopharmaceutical section and focuses on optimizing trial designs comparing two treatments to a common control group in two different sub-populations. In collaboration with the department faculty, Josh has developed a new statistical package for implementing these designs, which will be available later this year.

JHBC interim executive director, Gayane Yenokyan and a Biostatistics research associate, Abanti Sanyal, collaborated on an abstract titled “Predictors of Neoplastic Progression in High-Risk Individuals Undergoing Surveillance for Pancreatic Cancer: Lessons from the First 16 Years of the Cancer of the Pancreas Screening (CAPS) Program”. The abstract has been selected as a Poster of Distinction for presentation during 2017 Digestive Disease Week (DDW). It was rated in the top 10% of all American Gastroenterological Association’s abstracts selected for presentation at DDW.

JHBC Data Informatics Services Core (DISC) director, Andre Hackman has received Excellence in Teaching award for his “Introduction to Data Management” course. He is among the JHSPH instructors who received an average score of 3.6 and above in the Overall Course and Overall Instructor categories of their student course evaluations, with response rate of 70% or higher. Andre’s outstanding teaching has been recognized four years in a row, starting in academic year 2013-14. 



Biostatistics Center Free Walk-in Clinic is open to JHSPH graduate students who need assistance with biostatistical issues relating to their theses, dissertations, capstones or student research projects. A consultant is available to meet with a student for 30 minutes to advise them on their data or statistical analysis questions. Sign-up begins at 10:15 a.m. and slots are available on a first-come- first serve basis.

Biostatistics Center - Faculty/ Staff Clinic is open to JHU faculty/staff members who need assistance with clinical and translational research. The clinic sessions provide a consultant who is available to meet with a researcher for 20-30 minutes to advise them on their data or research questions. Note this clinic is for JHU faculty and staff only (which includes Pre & Post doctoral Fellows and Residents) Clinic slots are limited and available on a first- come first- serve basis.
