JHAD-RCMAR-Related Funding Opportunities

JHAD-RCMAR Faculty Scholars: To attract additional faculty to the field of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders (ADRD)-research in minority older adults, each year the JHAD-RCMAR identifies one or two faculty scholars for partial salary support. These Scholars will be post doctorate or junior faculty whose career research focus will be on ADRD-relevant minority aging research. Each year, the JHAD-RCMAR provides a maximum of $40,000 or 25% of salary, whichever is less, for junior faculty and a maximum of $20,000 or 50% of salary, whichever is less of post doctorate trainees. These funds provide protected time to be matched by the departments or Schools to allow young faculty to prepare career development awards.

Visiting Scholars Program: Each year, an investigator conducting state-of-the-art ADRD research related to health disparities in late life or minority aging will be invited to spend two days as a Visiting Scholar at the JHAD-RCMAR. Each Visiting Scholar will give a formal presentation and conduct an in-depth research seminar in a methodological area.  The remainder of the time of the Visiting Scholar will be spent consulting with JHAD-RCMAR Faculty and Scientists. Each year we solicit nominations from all participants in the JHAD-RCMAR and from the Scientific Review Panel. The JHAD-RCMAR leadership selects the Visiting Scholar from this list using the following criteria: (1) quality and innovation of the research, and (2) methodological sophistication and ability to contribute to the growth of the junior faculty and trainees. Collaboration with existing Centers at Johns Hopkins can be used to support this effort.

Pilot Project Program: A total of $30,000 (direct costs), plus F&A is available for each pilot project funded by the JHAD-RCMAR. The Center typically funds three pilot projects each year, and each project is expected to last one year. Junior or senior investigators, or post-doctoral fellows who are on track for promotion to at least Research Associate are eligible to apply. The affiliation of the applicant can be from any University. This pilot program is not limited to those with Johns Hopkins University affiliations. Individuals from under-represented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply for NIH support. If funded the next call for applicants will be issued in fall 2022.
