Control of Childhood Diarrhea Mortality

An expert team will conduct historical reviews of efforts to control diarrheal diseases and of trends in population coverage of preventive and therapeutic interventions and child morbidity and mortality from diarrhea. This information will be synthesized to gain better understanding of the reasons for the decline in diarrhea mortality in the last 35 years, including the effects of health interventions and of managerial approaches to disease control programs. The work will lead to a published paper that will include recommendations for future efforts to improve child survival. This grant will support the analysis of childhood diarrheal disease mortality and control efforts from 1980 to the present to inform future efforts to reduce diarrhea deaths
