2019 CHSOR Impact Report

  • In 2019, CHSOR core faculty had 60 funded research grant and contract awards (projects) active at any time in 2019.
  • Direct costs for all projects led or co-led by CHSOR core faculty for the entire period of the projects totaled $86,000,000.
  • The bulk of that, $76,225,000, came from Federal sources (32 projects), in particular, NIH (17) and AHRQ (9). Other major sources are PCORI (3 projects), foundations (6), other private sources (13) and JHU internal program funds (6).
  • In 2019, CHSOR core faculty started 16 new projects.

Dissemination 

  • 209 publications authored by CHSOR core faculty appeared in 2019 and throughout that year there were over 25,620 citations of previously published material.
  • The most influential journals where our faculty published in 2019 were: American Journal of Epidemiology, Journal of General Internal Medicine (JGIM), Value in Health, Health Affairs, Health Economics, Annals of Internal Medicine, New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), Medical Care, Cancer, Quality of Life Research, Health Services Research, and Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
  • On average, a CHSOR faculty member has over 12,200 all-time citations, an h-index of 40 and an i10-index of 95.
  • In 2019, our faculty individually authored up to 23 publications and were cited up to 9,450 times; the highest individual h-index was 115 and the highest i10-index was 383.
  • In 2019, core faculty gave 109 major presentations including 84 peer-reviewed or invited talks.
  • Our faculty engaged the scientific community at major conferences held in 2019 by: AcademyHealth, American Heart Association (AHA), American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), American Society of Health Economics, International Health Economics Association (IHEA), International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR), International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL), National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
  • There were 50 featured interviews with mass media, including The Associated Press, The Baltimore Sun, Forbes, Reuters, The Washington Post, and U.S. News & World Report.
  • Our faculty received 14 honors and awards in 2019. Among them, Albert Wu, MD, received the Patient Reported Outcomes Measures (PROMs) Career Achievement Prize from the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) and the John M. Eisenberg Excellence in Mentorship Award from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
  • CHSOR is integrated into the global web – our website attracted over 15,400 page views throughout the year, it presented over 60 web-featured research projects  and over 100 events on the online Calendar.
  • In 2019, the Center disseminated weekly updates and announcements via 51 weekly Newsletters to 740 subscribers.
  • Its Facebook page's 196 posts had reach of 3,480, and CHSOR's Twitter had 350 followers.
