Gendered Risk, Substance Use and HIV among Urban Women

Principal Investigator: Michele Decker

Additional CPHHR Faculty: Susan Sherman

Thirty years into the HIV epidemic, the gendered nature of women’s HIV experience is evident. Our team harnesses the Women’s Interagency HIV Study (WIHS), the largest and longest-running HIV cohort study of women in the US, to characterize intimate partner violence, sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, and transactional sex, and their independent and synergistic impact on sexual and drug-related HIV risk behavior, and HIV treatment success among the urban US women most affected by HIV.
