Research

The Center’s research is guided by our vision of working to reduce youth violence by creating and supporting positive environments for youth and families. The Center collaborates with a coalition of researchers, faculty, students and staff from Baltimore-based academic centers and partners, state and local officials, collaborators from Baltimore and Maryland-based agencies and organizations, as well as parents, local residents, and youth who further our knowledge and research abilities.

Center-affiliated faculty and staff represent Johns Hopkins University disciplinary diversity and include researchers, students and staff from the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing and other centers within the Bloomberg School of Public Health. Center-affiliated faculty participate in efforts to implement universal and selective/indicated interventions in several schools. Furthermore, collaborations with the local school system and other agencies to establish procedures for monitoring youth violence in Baltimore are in progress and the Center continues to analyze data to determine the extent to which the risk and protective factors and rates of youth violence vary across schools and neighborhoods.
