We take a multi-method approach to training to ensure that we develop and implement a comprehensive training plan for our Center. Our approach focuses on (1) strengthening staff, public health professionals, and student capacity to participate in quality research activities using community engaged research approaches effectively serve as an education and training resource and (2) strengthening our center’s capacity to serve as an educational and training resource. Our Center’s Training goals are to:
Facilitate training opportunities to build stakeholders’ capacity to advocate for positive adolescent health and development based on public health research and practices
Provide training opportunities that increase the capacity of stakeholders to implement effective practices and policies related to adolescent health and wellbeing.
Provide and facilitate opportunities for youth to become knowledgeable of public health practices as well as for graduate students and early career researchers and practitioners to become skilled public health professionals with an emphasis on attracting and retaining underrepresented minorities into the field of public health.
To achieve our goals, we draw on our close partnerships with a broad array of community partners and academics to create and provide training opportunities and technical assistance to support the translation of research to practice and the implementation of evidence-based practices to impact the population. We also quickly respond to specific requests for training and consultation from community partners and refer requests we could respond to appropriately. In addition, we work with others in Baltimore to train and mentor students at all levels from high school to junior faculty as well as parents, community members, service providers, policy makers and funders in order to ensure that the pipeline of scholars and community advocates committed to the promotion of adolescent health expands over time. Finally, we participate directly in the development of the young people whom the Center exists to serve. Together, these activities reflect a strong foundation to achieve the comprehensive training plan proposed by our center.
