Health Policy for Adolescents and “Opportunity Youth”

Together with the Bloomberg American Health Initiative and the American Public Health Association (APHA), we developed a national policy agenda to address the immediate needs of opportunity youth and the upstream determinants of disconnection.
The Center for Adolescent Health has a particular commitment to preventing youth disconnection from school and work and re-engaging young people who have become disconnected from these key supports. These young people are often called “opportunity youth” to indicate their tremendous potential when given the resources needed to thrive.
Our adolescent health policy work promotes positive youth development through relationships with caring adults, safe and supportive learning environments, and employment opportunities that pay a living wage.
