Information For Participants

Flyer to remind participants about 6month appointmentsSince 1988, the ALIVE cohort study has conducted semi-annual follow up with over 3,000 HIV-infected- , and at-risk, uninfected-intravenous drug users in Baltimore City. The current median age of participants is 48 years old and the study population is about 90% African American.

The ALIVE study offers all participants: 

  • Free and confidential testing for HIV and other diseases
  • Pre- and post-HIV test counseling
  • Medical screening referrals to medical and social services
  • Education about how to reduce the risk of getting HIV
  • Links to other research studies that impact the study population
