The Flu Fighter

pekoszAndrew Pekosz, PhD, is an influenza expert and associate professor in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His research focuses on understanding how viruses cause respiratory disease in humans and identifying ways to prevent or treat these infections. Pekosz is investigating the basic replication and disease mechanisms of several respiratory viruses including influenza A virus, SARS-CoV, hantaviruses and most recently, H7N9. His research interests lie in the interaction of viral proteins with cellular proteins and how those interactions lead to successful virus replication.
