Office of Student Life
The Bloomberg School is committed to creating and maintaining an environment which provides support to a richly diverse student body.
The Office of Student Life strives to promote a healthy balance between academics and personal life. In support of the School's strategic plan, our office aims to leverage the power of people by fueling creativity and ensuring excellence in all we do by cultivating a diverse, inclusive and nurturing environment for our students and trainees.
Vision: To positively impact the overall well-being of our students and trainees at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) by enriching their academic, personal and professional development.
Mission: To provide one-on-one coaching, personal advising, and workshops which encourage self-care and development while supporting students and trainees in successfully navigating, academic, personal, and professional environments here at JHSPH and beyond. The Office serves students and trainees enrolled in a JHSPH masters or doctoral program.
Values: In addition to the School’s values, our office values partnership, holistic development, and self-efficacy.
- Partnership: We work collaboratively with our departments, JHSAP, UHS, Student Assembly, and within Student Affairs to provide support for our students and trainees.
- Holistic Development: We believe the graduate student/trainee experience should include personal, professional, academic growth, and space for critical self-reflection.
- Self-Efficacy: Students/trainees need confidence in their abilities as researchers and public health leaders.
Personal Development Coaching
According to the International Coaching Federation, coaching is, “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.” The Office of Student Life offers personal development coaching as an opportunity for students/trainees to engage in a facilitated reflective process through activities and discussion. Students/trainees leave their appointments with action steps to work toward achieving their unique goals. Topics include goal setting, time management, and values clarification. More information can be found in our Coaching Agreement. To schedule an appointment, email email@example.com or call (410) 502-2487.
Sometimes unexpected challenges and setbacks arise for graduate students and trainees. Student Life provides a safe space to discuss and identify resources. To schedule an appointment, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (410) 502-2487.
Note: Personal coaching and advising services are offered through the Office of Student Life while counseling services are offered through JHSAP and UHS. For more information, visit our well-being resource page.
