Program Activities

Feelings of isolation, attrition, and lack of mentoring are primary contributors to decreased retention and degree completion of PhD students from underrepresented backgrounds. The development of key peer and faculty relationships early in graduate programs increases the likelihood of completing doctoral programs and continuing in related careers. Interviews of students form historically underrepresented groups indicate that impactful mentors and strong affinity student groups are effective methods for encouraging program completion.

The LEARNED Program aims to expand diversity and ensure feelings of belonging for those entering the public health research field.
