The MCAC members convene several times a year to decide what services or technologies will be covered by the national Medicare insurance program, based on the best available research regarding effectiveness. The committee's input is used by CMS to decide what should or should not be covered for the 40 million elderly and disabled Americans that the Medicare program insures.--Tim Parsons
