Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, in cooperation with the Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), will be enrolling students to its Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program in Jaipur, India, beginning in fall 2013. The Jaipur-based MPH program is specifically intended for citizens and residents of India and low- and middle-income countries in the region. The program’s focus will be on public health capacity building in developing countries with emphasis on health management skills to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of public health programs and services.

“We are eager to begin working with our colleagues at the IIHMR. Together our program will train the next generation of public health leaders particularly in issues facing India,” said Michael J. Klag, MD, MPH, dean of the Bloomberg School of Public Health.

IIHMR Director Shiv Gupta, MD, PhD added, “The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health MPH Program in cooperation with IIHMR will be an important milestone in promoting public health and building capacity of health professionals in India and the South East Asia region. It will usher in a new era in providing high quality education and training in public health that will establish a new benchmark in this part of the world.”

The cooperative MPH program will include 80 term-credits for a curriculum comprised of 23 didactic classes, plus a capstone and practicum. Classes will be taught primarily at the IIHMR campus in Jaipur, and online. Students will travel once to the Bloomberg School’s campus in Baltimore, Maryland for two weeks to attend class in-person.
