The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health has named Caroline Moreau, MD, PhD, MPH, as the recipient of the William G. Robertson Jr. Professorship in Population and Family Planning. The endowment was created to support the Bloomberg School’s pioneering research and outreach programs in a vital area of study.

Caroline Moreau joins the Bloomberg School as assistant professor in the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health. Moreau is internationally recognized for her strong dedication to women’s sexual and reproductive health as well as her research, which has focused on advancing the understanding of contraceptive use patterns and their association with unwanted pregnancy and recourse to abortion.

Moreau received her medical degree at the University of Pierre and Marie Curie in Paris and earned a PhD in public health at Paris Sud University. She has led projects at the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) in France and at Princeton University before joining the Johns Hopkins faculty. She also served as co-principal investigator of the 2010-2011 French national survey on sexual and reproductive health, which explored sexual and reproductive health in relation to the social and medical factors that inform individuals’ attitudes and behaviors.

“Johns Hopkins is fortunate to have attracted a young scholar of such promise and accomplishment as Caroline Moreau,” said Robert W. Blum, MD, PhD, MPH, professor and William H. Gates Sr. Chair of the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health. “Her research in women's health and her links with the French research community strengthen our capacity here at the Bloomberg School to better reach and serve Francophone countries in Africa as well as around the world.”

William G. Robertson Jr. passed away in 2007 at the age of 93 and was a generous supporter of Johns Hopkins, dating back to 1951. The William G. Robertson Jr. Professorship in Population and Family Planning was created to support the School’s pioneering research and outreach programs in world population, an area of study that scientists believe to be vital in the 21st century and an issue of particular concern to Mr.
Robertson.

Ronald Gray, MD, was the previous recipient of the Robertson Professorship.
