KHEL: Knowledge on Health, Education and Learning through community games

The games people play can enhance learning. ‘Khel’ translates into game or play in Hindi. KHEL – Knowledge on Health, Education and Learning through community games, a short documentary film made by the Johns Hopkins Maternal and Child Health Center India (MCHI) and the Child In Need Institute (CINI), illustrates how social and behavior change can occur when people take on real roles they are living and come together for a universally desirable health outcome. The players are real mothers, fathers, frontline workers, teachers, village leaders, and adolescents, who jointly examine challenges and barriers, and design practical solutions through a journey of fun and games. With a cross-cutting objective of promoting health literacy, KHEL takes a life cycle approach, covering themes such as maternal health, childhood immunization and adolescent health. Learning through play can be one of the most effective forms of behavior change
