Impact of maternal nutrition on the prevalence of childhood stunting in West Bengal

Mother holds baby

The health and nutrition of a woman is a major contributory factor to her own health and well-being, and the nutrition of her child and family, throughout the lifecycle. The burden of undernutrition is high in the state of West Bengal, where 62% pregnant women are anemic and a third of children under the age of 5 years are stunted. In this project, we aim to study the long-term childhood outcomes of strengthening government-supported public nutrition programs provided to pregnant women between 2018-2020 in three districts in West Bengal. The study focuses on growth, nutritional status and stunting amongst children born to mothers in the intervention group compared to those in the standard comparison group.
