Validation of neonatal Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) and verbal autopsy

Summary

Develop and validate an improved, standardized verbal autopsy instrument for diagnosing the common causes of neonatal mortality in a community-based setting which minimizes biases introduced by care-seeking behavior and hospitalization; and assess the validity of neonatal illness recognition and classification according to Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI) criteria by community health workers compared to physician gold standard assessment.

This project is being conducted through the Johns Hopkins International Center for Advancing Neonatal Health.
