Morbidity/Mortality And Disability In Children Study

Summary

The 4 year longitudinal study Morbidity, Mortality and Disability in Children study in Uganda will assess the health impact of HIV/AIDS on infected and uninfected children born to HIV-infected mothers. The overall objective is to assess the direct and indirect effects of maternal HIV infection on the health and development in HIV-positive (HIV+) and HIV-negative (HIV-) children born to HIV+ mothers. The study will provide comprehensive information on child physical development, morbidity, and mortality, as well as unique data on neurodevelopmental disabilities, in Rakai Uganda. Longitudinal data will also be collected on co-infections such as malaria and TB in mothers and children. The impact of ARVs on child health outcomes will also be assessed.
