Summary
In collaboration with South African colleagues, the overall goal of this project is a validation of clinical case definitions and assessment of treatment response in HIV-infected adults with smear-negative tuberculosis in the Kwazulu Natal Province of South Africa. This is setting with one of the highest HIV prevalence worldwide (~40%) and high incidence of tuberculosis (>300/100,000 population).
