Vietnam: Strengthening Medical Education
Jhpiego has worked in Vietnam in partnership with Pathfinder International since 2003, focusing on pre-service (undergraduate) medical education in reproductive and maternal and neonatal health. In this initiative, Jhpiego is working to improve the quality of medical education programs in the Hue Medical Faculty through strengthening the clinical skills and the preparation of medical graduates to work in the communities. Jhpiego, with the Hue Medical Faculty, is developing and validating the approaches, methodologies and tools that will be disseminated to all eight medical faculties in Vietnam. Project activities center on improving effectiveness of field teaching programs and clinical skills labs; developing and assessing the use of teaching/learning materials; reviewing the role and effectiveness of preceptors, managers and field supervisors; strengthening the process of evaluating students; and improving the capacity of the Medical Faculty staff to manage the learning process. Jhpiego’s work in Vietnam presents an opportunity to introduce effective learning methodologies to current and future health care professionals to help them provide high-quality health care services to women and their families.
For nearly 40 years, Jhpiego, (pronounced "ja-pie-go"), has empowered front-line health workers by designing and implementing simple, low-cost, hands-on solutions that strengthen the delivery of health care services, following the household-to-hospital continuum of care. We partner with community- to national-level organizations to build sustainable, local capacity through advocacy, policy and guidelines development, and quality and performance improvement approaches.
