FAB youth Study (Food assistance among Baltimore Youth)
Baltimore, MD, United States
Summary
The primary aims of this study are: 1)To determine the impact of emergency and summer SNAP programs on reducing food insecurity among adolescents aged 14-18 years; 2) To examine the feasibility of providing emergency and summer SNAP programs to households with food-insecure adolescents; and 3) To evaluate diet quality and food acquisition behaviors among food-secure and insecure adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. A mixed methods two-year study will address these aims by conducting three waves of surveys among adolescents who receive varying levels of food assistance, a 24-hour recall to assess food consumption and dietary behaviors, and in-depth interviews to gather data on the facilitators and barriers at accessing food.
