Lilongwe, Malawi
Summary
The PEPFAR funded PROMOTE Cohort Study is a 5 year follow up study that began in December 2016, recruited HIV-infected mothers (n=1987 )and their children (n= 2278) as a rollover Cohort study from the high enrolling clinical research sites (CRSs) in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Malawi that participated in the multi-country PROMISE 1077BF clinical trial. The overall aims include: 1) To study the long-term impact of maternal ARV regimens that women received during PROMISE and subsequently during PROMOTE and provide critical data on long-term safety and health outcomes in the women (including repeat pregnancies) and their children; 2) To study adherence to long-term maternal ART interventions, including development of innovative interventions designed to promote and evaluate long-term adherence; 3) To use the longitudinal cohort follow-up as a platform to provide operational research and implementation science opportunities for rising African investigators through a mentored in-service training program, targeting early career African site investigators.
