InCHIANTI Study

Summary
The InCHIANTI Study (Invecchiare in Chianti, "Aging in the Chianti Area") is an NIH-funded, population-based prospective study of the causes of mobility disability among older adults. The study is conducted in the Tuscany region of Italy. The role of a Mediterranean type of diet, physical activity, and other risk factors are being evaluated in relation to adverse aging outcomes. The study is currently in the ninth year of follow-up. The investigators include Dr. Stefania Bandinelli of the Laboratory of Clinical Epidemiology, Azienda Sanitaria di Firenze and Dr. Luigi Ferrucci of the National Institute on Aging, NIH.
