Indonesia: Cervical and Breast Cancer Prevention
Jhpiego’s collaboration with the Ford Foundation in Indonesia started in 2005 with their support of two midwifery schools in Aceh province. Jhpiego and the Ford Foundation continue to build this partnership. With funding from the Foundation, Jhpiego is providing effective and affordable screening and treatment for cervical and breast cancer in Indonesia’s Karawang District. Under this grant, Jhpiego is consolidating its Cervical Cancer and Prevention Program (CECAP) by building broad-based support for breast and cervical cancer prevention and control at the national, district and community levels; and conducting an external evaluation of this three-year CECAP program to assess the effectiveness of the CECAP model. The Ministry of Health is expanding this model to several districts.
About Jhpiego: For nearly 40 years, Jhpiego, (pronounced "ja-pie-go"), has empowered front-line health workers by designing and implementing simple, low-cost, hands-on solutions that strengthen the delivery of health care services, following the household-to-hospital continuum of care. We partner with community- to national-level organizations to build sustainable, local capacity through advocacy, policy and guidelines development, and quality and performance improvement approaches.
