Improving survey data on births and neonatal deaths in low-income countries
An increasing number of federally funded health programs focus on reducing mortality among newborns less than 4 weeks old in low-income countries, but existing data sources only provide imprecise estimates of mortality during this neonatal period. This project is a randomized controlled of an innovative mobile data collection tool, designed to a) improve the recall of neonatal deaths and b) allow a more precise estimation of age at death among children. If effective, this new tool will permit better measuring mortality risks among newborns and evaluating the effectiveness of programs aimed at reducing those risks.
