Identifying Transmission Routes for Cholera Among Household Contact of Cases

Dhaka, Bangladesh

Summary

Household contacts of cholera patients are at a 100 times higher risk of developing a cholera infection than the general population during the week post presentation of the index cholera patient at a health facility. We are currently conducting a prospective cohort study of household members of cholera cases in rural and urban settings in Bangladesh to identify risk factors for cholera infection and to develop interventions for this highly susceptible population.
